We ask the tough questions

You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?

Grab a cup of tea and head out into the garden to strategise my next job.

Would you describe yourself as a technophobe or technophile?

I’m quite obsessed by new technologies. It’s a kind of sickness really. But I do admire those strong enough to resist Facebook, smart phones, and web surfing… er, research.

When meeting someone, would you rather they thought you were charming or mysterious? Why?

Ooh, that’s a tough one. I can’t decide. Can I be charmingly mysterious? I think that’s better than being mysteriously charming, don’t you?

What's the biggest thing you've learnt this year?

That it’s impossible to do everything by myself. I used to write, manage a team of freelancers, market my business online and in person, and do all admin. At the end of the day, I was so scattered that my ability to be creative – an essential part of copywriting – was compromised.

Solution? I convinced my partner to leave his high profile project management/marketing role and join the company. My productivity immediately went through the roof!

What's the best bit of feedback you've ever had?

“OMG! You’ve used all my words but you’ve made me sound… incredible!”

What’s the smartest bit of marketing you’ve ever done?

Search Engine Optimisation. With 60% of customers making business decisions online, it’s a crucial marketing tool to increase your web visibility. Of course, then you need to make sure your website captures their attention – and for the right reasons.

What’s the one resource you’d never be without?

What on earth did we do before smart phones? A soloist’s trusty personal assistant.

What’s the most obscure business request you’ve ever had?

I was once asked whether I would camp out with a photographer in Hyde Park for a fortnight to soak up the atmosphere of the place. I did try to argue that I could do that just as easily from the Sheraton across the road.  The same client read me a very bad poem three times in lieu of a brief. Weirdest. Meeting. Ever.

What book are you reading?

Peter Temple’s Truth.  Brilliant.  And as I’ve just finished my PhD in Media & Journalism it’s absolutely blissful to be reading something non-academic.

If you could pick anyone to be your personal assistant, who would it be and why?

They’d have to be ferociously intelligent, funny, and completely loyal. Oscar Wilde? John Donne?

How did your school report describe you (in three words)?

Happy. Prodigious. Original.

Can you stop at just one chocolate biscuit/savoury snack?

I know everything about them is wrong, but I’m addicted to dim sims. One is never enough.

And now comes the plug!

What do you do? Who for? And how does it benefit them?

We specialise in creating corporate website content, information architecture and analysis, and marketing documentation for a broad range of industry sectors including retail, property, fashion, interiors, and hospitality.

We’ve eight years experience in crafting complex brand and business messages into simple, engaging text that your customers and stakeholders want to read.

And where can we find out more?
